Goal achieved. By far one of the hardest things I have done on a bike is trying to survive a group road ride on a mnt bike for upwards of 50 miles. The is no such thing as sitting in. You are always on the gas trying to turn over the small gear on a big gear ride. What does it teach? Leg speed, and pain threshold. Not to mention it's a mental builder being able to stay in the group at 28+ mph. I don't think I ever sat on the back of the saddle the entire ride. It was full on TT mode with me planted on the nose of my Terry saddle. I wonder what my average HR was during the ride? I bet close to 170 bpm.
Thought going through me head during the whole ride....."If you think it hurts now, what'a think it'll feel like at 11,000 ft?"
Will I be sore tomorrow? I am sure. But, I get to do it all over again with a 10 mile TT effort. Me....the clock.....and the rolling Iowa country side.
So I have one day down on a week of overreaching training. Painful....but well, well, well worth it. Then it's a week of recovery at Eurobike.
