• Back on the Bike.

Yesterday, I finally got back on the bike. I spun around the State Park on the pave trail. My legs felt really good. Was out there for over 2 hours, but it felt like about 1 hour. Got to love those rides. For some reason there was not a ton of cyclists...mostly runners. Maybe it was because of this insane heat. Yesterday it was about 91 degrees with a heat index of over 100 degrees. Sweet.

Last night towards the end of work I called an made my reservations for lodging while in Whister. The World's racers get the hook up with lodging. We get to stay at the Whistler Westin for like $98 a night. Yep, that is high in my book, but it is the cheapest price lodging in the whole Whistler area. Normally, the room is like $250 a night. This place is 4 star all the way. Too bad I am only like 1/2 star. The racers really don't fit in in this hotel. Well, anyway, check out our room for a few days. It's pretty nice. It even has a TV...somethiing I have been lacking for over a year now.

Speaking of last night at work...
Worked with Carl. Had this guy come in to have a minor adjustment. He ended up test riding one of the higher end comfort road bikes from Trek. He was a nice guy and meant well, but he was all out funny. Me and Carl were bitting our tounges. Here are some of his quotes from the discussion and what I was thinking in my head...

Customer: "I am not Lance Armstrong. I don't need a super light bike."
In my head: "Nope, your not. How do I know? Cotton T. Cotton Shorts. 200 plus lbs. Total body swamp ass in an air conditioned building, etc."

Customer: "Can I test ride it?"
    In my head: "Sure, buddy!"
Customer goes out in the parking lot and sticks it in the biggest gear and goes Jan Ullrich thru the parking lot for like 5 miles.

Customer walks in door after test ride soaking wet with sweat. Breathing so hard and uttering the words..."Th-a-t's aw-e-some."

In my head: Sweet buddy! Now would you please clean up your life juices from the carpet?

    End test ride.

Carl also informed me of his new name and his plot to take over the galaxy. He is now Darth Jackal Sith Lord, or something like that. He was filling out an entry form for a race and for his address he put down something like...Death Star orbiting the outer reaches of the universe. I just don't get it.

Today around 8 AM I am heading out with Carl for some road miles. He is gearing up for a solo effort at the 24 Hours of 7 Oaks over Labor Day weekend. If you want a 24 hour event to try hit this one up. The winners of each category with come out with $500! The course is great too!! 7 mile loop with about 97% singletrack. Not to mention cheeeeeeeeeep entry, free food, etc, etc, etc. The event info is out on paper, but should be HERE very soon. The guys at Irwin's Bike and Sport in Des Moines throw a good show. DON'T MISS IT!!!

Also, have a link to 5th place solo racer MIKE HOWARD's site. He has a write up on his joys of racing 24-9. It's good read. Swing by...read it...wipe away the tear...clap your hands...and congratulate him. It's tough work! Keep rage'n Mike!!!!!

Well, that's enough. Need to cut weight before the ride this AM. I will leave you with some links to people who have surf'd on over to this site. Check them out.
