That's what I keep thinking this off season as I suffer in the weight room. I won't make the podium at 24 Hour Solo World's training a month before the race. I will make the podium training now and up to the day of the race. Today was another day of weights in my "training to train" phase, otherwise known as the Prep phase. Everything is going good. I am starting to slim down a bit.....down about a pound. My goal is to be around 160-165 lbs. for next year. I learn'd a few years ago not to starve myself, so I will just let the weight fall off. A few years ago I lost a ton of weight, thinking lighter was better, but the downside was that I had no power........not good for a mountain bike racer. Anyway, tomorrow it's back to the YMCA again for some cardio workouts.
Ran some errands today.... deposited my paycheck, went to Wal-Mart to get some laundry soap and poop paper, and now I am doing laundry. Suprisingly 80% of the clothes I wash are still cycling oriented clothing, so that means they air dry. Wahoo! Save'n money not using the drier! Hmmm....is it drier or dryer? Who cares, you know what I am talking about.
I also got the car checked over. Since the harsh Iowa winter is coming, I got the oil changed and had everything ran through on the Mazda Protege 5. The belts are OK, tires are good, but the air filter looks like it just came back from Mars. That is what the mechanic said when he show'd it to me. Hmmmm? I wonder why that is? Maybe the lovely Moab landscape. Anywho, the car is happy!
It's that time of year again....
All the mail order bike shops are sending out their X-Mas catalogs. Me, I get Excel Sports, Colorado Cyclist, and World Cycling Productions. I like these simply because they carry all the "bling-bling" gear. 99% of the stuff in these catalogs price oriented towards Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists. Speaking of Dentists......We have a guy who lives in Illinois that does his buisness at our shop.....he just bought a custom Calfee carbon tandem.....with full Campy Record.....carbon seatposts, stems, handlebars, H2O cages......Price?.....you better sit down.....READY?......$14,000. And it's projected to weigh about 23 lbs. Let's just say it made the boss man very happy. Well, back to the catalogs. When I look through these catalogs, I thank my lucky stars that:
A. I can ride my bike fast enough to get sponsorship support.
B. I work at a shop and can employee purchase stuff.
Well, that is about it for today. Thanks to Guitar Ted for telling me what all those damn knobs were for on my Fox fork.....just kidding.
Keep training hard!
Out.
